Craig Parks is a man of many hats! He is a Grinspoon Award winning Jewish educator, touring musician, composer, and recording artist. Craig founded teen band Kavannah and the monthly Teen Shabbat Jam service. His youth rock band Shorashim for 6-12 graders is currently in its 3rd year. He has created and directed two Jewish day camps including Camp Simcha located in San Diego and is entering its 19th summer. Craig is also a nationally recognized figure in Jewish teen engagement, having spoken at numerous national conferences. He has written his own curriculum for both 8th and 9th grade in addition to running groups for parents of teens. He recently has been creating programs and doing advocacy education for families with special needs.
In addition to his work with teens, Craig also leads monthly Pajama Shabbat services for young families as well as a weekly crazy Monday morning preschool sing-along followed by Havdallah. Craig has released three CDs with Kavannah as well as his own CD of Jewish kids music called “Kol Kef – All Fun!” His next recording for parents to sing with their very young children will be released later this year. He is honored to be entering his 7th year as a part of the SLBC faculty and community! Craig also gets the pleasure to be the husband of Rachel and dad to Jonah and Neshama!
